Description

Snowflake on smooth gradient background: macro photo of real snow crystal on glass surface with LED back light. This is medium size snowflake with amazing relief surface. It have good symmetry, except for outer tips of the arms, and some unusual structure: pattern of rings in the center looks strange, when compared to straight lines on the arms. Anyway, this crystal is one of my favorites from all catch of january 2015.

This snowflake was captured on large sheet of glass, with LED back light, using additional lens Helios 44M-5 as magnifier. 12 identical RAW photos, captured as fast series, was averaged to boost signal-to-noise ratio and reveal subtle details of this image.

Also, i've processed this snowflake in warmer colors (you can find it in galleries "All snowflakes" and "Bright snowflakes") and on pure black background (this variant available in gallery "Dark snowflakes").
