Description
Takin' It to the Streets is the sixth studio album by the American rock band the Doobie Brothers, released on March 19, 1976 by Warner Brothers Records. (BS2899) It was the first album to feature Michael McDonald on lead vocals.
By late 1974 while touring in support of Stampede the bands leader Tom Johnson was diagnosed with stomach ulcers and was forced to reduce his involvement with the band. That's when band member Jeff Baxter suggested calling in fellow Steely Dan graduate Michael McDonald to help finish up the tour. The record company was panicked about a change in the band but producer Ted Templeman encouraged the record company and McDonald to record Takin' It to the Streets.
Singles of note on the album that made it into the Pop 100 are “Takin' It to the Streets”, “Wheeles of Fortune” and “It Keeps You Running”.
