Why Post ??

Hi Everyone, I am trying to understand why and what is the purpose in posting the images here when it is not a contest. Ex. Post every month etc I have been given a snappy answer saying ' No one is forcing you to post it if you dont want to post.'
Is any one here can tell me why are posting here if not a contest, what is your benefit 🤔 please and thank you.

Just to post your work, literally. Join a thread... have a little fun, be a part of something along with other members/community. Socialize with art.

It doesn't have to have some big end game or meaning does it? No, of course not.

this is a store, we post to sell things, that is the main point. the contests are a game, but i've gotten sales from them too. did you not realize this is a store?

people tell you that no one is forcing you because 80% of your threads thus far has to do with copyright, or stealing images in some form.

Mike, I believe he's speaking of posting in image threads.... he's asking basically what is the use of them? (I could be dead wrong, too)

And if you go onto an image thread asking why people are posting on it, yeah, someone will probably say 'if you don't wanna post, then don't in a snappish way because you're spoiling their fun.

if its image threads, its the same thing. the hope that some buyer some where, at some point will see it and make you into a super star. its the same reason that when you go to Hollywood, you have tap dance when you see a producer... if bugs bunny is accurate.

Right you are :) Somebody somewhere may see your image and fall in love with it. Always a possibility.

Although Mike is correct about this being a store it is much more than that. I have never given the store any real thought but use the site as a way to socialize and connect with other artists. I also make use of the web site as needed. There are also times where I felt the need of advice on some topic or another and have found the site to be quite useful.

I love the image threads... it's fun and inspiring to see beautiful works of art by such a diverse and talented group of artists.

The image threads are a great way to show off your newest works, socialize, and even attract buyers. The threads are public and indexable by Google, so someone might find your art in a thread or contest rather than directly from your page. Subject-specific threads, such as those often found in groups, are a great way to attract customers. For example, one group may have an "Animal Artwork" image thread where you can post your animal art, so someone searching for animal art may come across the thread.

Tony S,

You ask, "Why post?"

ANSWER: Pure narcissistic exhibitionism of self importance and self celebration [Hey, look at what I did!] ... nurturing the fantasy that somebody actually cares. (^_^)

And, on that note, look what I did yesterday:

Abstract Hastas

Bill Swartwout

Wow, Robert. That is a really cool abstract.

My wife loves to grow Hastas in her gardens around the house - I never thought about "abstracting" some of her flowers and plants.

So funny, Robert
Why?
B/c your image isn't clickable, and deprives me from feeding your ego. What an irony. I like your abstract, just FYI,
'Why post,?' Indeed

I like hostas, too.

Not only is it hard to see why you should post here, but also, contests, which are similarly worthless. Maybe, but then, maybe not. It's all the stuff we do to entertain ourselves while we wait for something real to happen.

Abbie Shores

I will repeat here to counter that last post that contests are not worthless. Lots of sales come from those

Many of us are here to sell our work, and selling only happens if we get enough eyeballs on that work. Speaking for myself, I like to take advantage of opportunities to share or expose my work to a wider audience.

winning the contests are usually pointless, but i've sold things from them. i think one of my last sales was from the contest, it was at least related to something i posted.its not often that it happens though. a 24in print is a pretty good sale.

Simply put, so if a buyer happens to wander or web surf into the image thread they will see your work and buy it. If you can't understand that social reasons you should understand that obvious reason . Before we had image threads people were posting in all the discussions. Then people were starting image threads. it got out of hand and maybe slowed down the site, so they limit images now.

Mainly it is a little distractrion from whatever we are doing and keeps us involved in our work. See also the thread about Alt titles.THey help Google index your images as do image threads.

I am positive I made at least one sale from a contest. They may also help with Google, I don't know but Google sees everything.

For VIVA:

Robert Kernodle Art Prints

If not for this thread, I would not have uploaded this image to Pixels/FAA/...

Sometimes, simple feedback from other artists can tip the scale on one's decision to offer something for sale.

Why does any artist want to share their creations?!

Sharing in multiple online spaces, over the past fifteen years, has enabled my creative outcomes to be seen around the world. Something an unknown artist in the mid twentieth century could only have dreamed of!

For me, selling is not a primary motivator. Bending a space to shape an artistic perspective is the fun part.

VIVA,

Totally off topic now, but curiosity is burning -- why the aversion to Pixels? -- you are there too: https://pixels.com/profiles/viva-anderson

i personally never liked the sound or look of pixels. when i think - fine art, that's what i think of. when i hear pixels i think miniature golf course, don't ask why that, but that's what i think of.

Joy Mckenzie is the only one who understood my question. Thank you Joy.
And for all the rest of you, miss the target but enjoy the fun anyway.
Thanks

Joy gets the brownie button!

Thumbs Up Joy.

Ronald Walker

Tony, looking at your question there were two parts, first; Why are posting here if not a contest? Hard to understand that part of the question due to the phrasing. Second part, What is your benefit? Easy to understand but whatever answer each artist gives is a personal response, not really one that you get to criticize.

Mike Savad

yeah i didn't get his question either. all we can do is try to guess at it and answer it the best we can. personally i thought the thread was abandoned.

Brownie button? I read that as a dis, Glenn. And I think you meant it that way. Like brownie points, brown nosing... it's not a compliment.

And I used to respect you, your work and knowledge on here. Well, not anymore.

Robert Kernodle

Tony S,

I understood your question -- I gave an honest, blunt reply -- sorry it was incomprehensible to you. To continue my honest reply, I suspect that you were looking for confirmation for what you already knew.

Joy, why so harsh on Glenn? One off comment on an internet forum, and you're ready to condemn a person to the hall of shame? I suspect Glenn thought the question at hand was a pretend innocent inquiry too.

I mean, why be on the internet? Why have a print-on-demand artist presence? Why live? Why ask why? See, I'm pretending not to know the answers, but I really do -- it's a way to start a conversation, and that's how humans roll.
