My latest paintings are created by using pyrography as my under painting, as this is my preferred method to give extra texture and depth to the painting. Pyrography meaning to write with fire, is used for burning marks into wood. This method is time consuming but I find the result worth it.

The painting is completed by layering molten encaustic medium, (beeswax and damar crystals) mixed with coloured pigment over the under painting. In applying the layers I use many tools to achieve different effects. Each layer is fused to the preceding layer using heat.

I am inspired by the colour, texture and form of fruit and vegetation of all kinds. The challenge of mixing the colours is a procedure that gives me great satisfaction.
