Hello! Thank you for looking at my images. If you are interested in purchasing any of them, please go to http://vedagonzalez.artspan.com/ for current pricing. Now ABOUT ME!

Not a single digital camera graced the halls of Brooks Institute of Photography in 1980 when I graduated. So like the rest of graduate photographers in the Dark Ages, I processed film, spent entire nights in the stinky darkroom, sliced miniscule pieces of emulsion off negatives, and spotted prints for hours each day. And even though I’m not really a cave dweller at heart, I have to say I enjoyed the whole creative process.

After graduating, I set up a commercial studio in Austin, Texas, and photographed flying karate kicks, exercise equipment, rare coins, computers, real estate, and numerous other products and services. I also photographed a young man who later married me and whisked me, a young woman, off to Prescott, Arizona. Prescott at that time was not a manufacturing center with lots of products to photograph, but my husband & I (with YHVH’s blessing) began our own production with six children, who kept me quite busy for a few years. I discovered the joy of photographing little naked babies and drool and the unexpected. I also enjoyed photographing big families.

Another move brought us to Missouri, and as children grew up, I learned the industry had up and left me as well, having gone digital. Old dog that I am, I feel like I am now getting a second degree in computer science. My camera is a computer; my lab is computer-based; my film is a computer file; my darkroom is a computer software program (actually several programs); and advertising as well as clientele are web-based! I can’t say I have totally graduated with my new “degree” yet, but each shoot, each adventure, each success propels me along the way.

What I do find exhilarating is that the art of photography is always the same, no matter how the tools have changed. Lighting still draws my eye like a magnet. Composition pleases or excites. Color screams. Classic black & white pleasures. Posing speaks volumes. And people - people still beg & yet challenge me to capture some little part of their essence, of who they are or why they do the things they do.

Life is an adventure. Photography is a record of that great adventure. Onward!
