I started dabbling in watercolours nine years ago when I had to retire from nursing due to health issues. Being self-taught ie. having never attended an art group it has been a rocky road and still is. But watercolour painting has been a God-send and has filled many a happy hour.
I paint mostly from photographs, often ones taken myself, or from imagination on occasions. Bright, bold colours are my stock in trade, and I will often add elements, shadows or flowers or trees to a painting, that are not in the original image, artistic license of course. Much of my work ends up being thrown at the bin, but nothing quite excels the feeling of happiness when the outcome is a non-binner.
Watercolour is my favourite medium because of its transparency and watching the paint flow onto the white paper and never quite knowing what will happen next. I also like history, reading, and going for long walks each day with my Jack Russell, Harriet.
