In my previous life I was a secretary for a local company and thoroughly enjoyed my role. However, art always called my name and I did not know if I would every have the very special opportunity to retire and devote my free time to doing what I love. I am fortunate to be retired and painting up a storm. I adore vibrant colors and trying to find my own unique style which is depicted in Prancing Poppies. I have taken several painting classes and have had the good fortune to have talented and encouraging teachers. I started in watercolor and now I specialize in acrylic painting and making decorative plaques. For the plaques I spread joint compound over the surface, dip the item in water, press it into the joint compound and remove it. I love trying different things that my husband brings from the garage and you never really know where you are going in the process. After a few days the joint compound is dry, and I sand it and seal it. Then I apply yellow acrylic paint to the surface, wipe off what areas I do not want painted and seal it when dry. Then I do the process again with reds and oranges, then blues and greens and finally blacks and browns. The adventure is so much fun not knowing exactly what the final plaque will look like.

One of my other passions is saving Monarch butterflies. We bring them in as eggs and get to watch the whole process as they mature in aquariums.

As one of my dear friends says 'Have an artful day!'
