My name is Mary Ellen Anderson; I’m an oil painter. I create original paintings in a unique style, specializing in traditional art. I often paint along country, historic, romantic and nostalgic themes. My art is especially suitable in a lodge or rural home, or for anyone decorating with a country or nostalgic theme. I believe that art is a connection with the viewer. I try and create works that engage the viewer; that offers more than just cursorily consideration. Not just a pretty picture but an experience. Details of interest, storytelling and underlying meanings, and sensory reactions are intended and added to enrich the viewer’s experience. I want you to feel the coldness of the mountain’s air I experienced when painting, or that you could shake hands with the characters, and wonder at the meaning behind an expression. I want you to be able to see into deep pools and shadows, like it was to be there; not the flat representation like photography. Classically trained, I often paint in traditional styles. I love painting the subjects that surround me and see beauty everywhere.
