Jenny Pickens, a self taught artist and native of Asheville, NC. With the encouragement of my first art teacher ,I found a love for creating and making things. Throughout school I received several art certificates and awards. My art has been featured in our local newspapers and magazines (Urban News, Asheville Made, Readers Digest,The Laurel of Asheville,and Business NC). Becoming the t-shirt designer for the Goombay Festival in Asheville in 2006 and 2007. Throughout my hometown I've done several murals, logo designs ,as well as art shows. I was featured on Season 5 of Samantha Browns Places To Love in my hometown of Asheville, NC. Scott Mason of WRAL-TV did a segment of my art on The Tar Heel Traveler. In January 2023 I appeared in The Story of Art in America (season 2). In May 2023 I was recognized in the New York Times 36 Hours in Asheville,NC Things to Do and See. I share my passion for art in area schools and colleges as a service provider as well as serving on ACSF board and TAPAAS. It is so important to teach youth to be creative. My media of choice is acrylics. However I've worked in all mediums. Hand built pottery,sewing, and repurposed jewelry making. The Big Crafty is a large and successful craft show held in Asheville twice a year. My handcrafted dolls can be found there. You may contact me directly for commissions or purchase.
