Hello. Glad to be part of such a huge amount of excellent talent..I live in Seattle, WA. you can call me if you want, 206-778-3033. I went to France in '75 for almost 6 months. I was born in Mpls., MN, and went back to Mpls, U of M in '74 through '77. Before I left Minnesota, I rented an aluminun canoe from the U and 2 paddles (that was a damn good idea, and almost missed that~tell you why, I was up in the boundary waters doing a solo, had about a week out there by myself, and the day I parked my VWwagon, remember those?, It rained in Mpls. 8 inches in 7 hours. I was sitting in the middle of this huge lake with an Australian bush hat and a pauncho, glad for the hat and pauncho, but had a moment, ! just put my paddle down, and sat there, this was the first day, and wondered if I was insane to remain on this trip,......I amd so glad I did, it was magnificent. Wow, it was raining hard, like in Mpls, (Iearned about the amount of rainfall when I got back. It was also storming, so in some of the passages before I could stroke the opposite side of the canoe, the wind would grab the front end and reverse me.....I grabbed the extra paddle and lashed them together so I could get that kayak like action, getting a stroke to each side before the wind grabbed me. ~ That's the end of the paddle story.) I spent a week up there, and saw no other humans. I would bathe in the lake, a bit chilly, every morning and nighttime before bed. Read some. Always got a fire going!!! Portaged. Had a gas, and my arms were like steal when I got back. AWESOME.
Took film and french and art classes there at the U. That is why I went to France, Grenoble. AWESOME. The people I met, Paul, Denise, Patrick, Joelle, Guy, Manou, and many others treated me like a 'realon Frenchman,' brother. More later. James
