I have always experienced a deep longing to connect with something ancient and enduring and have found that art is the portal by which I could attempt to do so. As an approach to the beautiful and the mysterious, art provides a path for exploring our common Human Heritage. It communicates beyond words, and points toward that which is eternal and unknowable.
Ancient art, objects and symbols inspire me. Responding to them in a simple human context, I attempt to present them in new and harmonious ways. I am especially drawn to symbols that have occurred repeatedly over long periods of time and in multiple contexts. The spiral is the best example of this, as it is not only ubiquitous in ancient art, but also in nature.
Museums have always been a great source of inspiration for me. I am grateful for the natural history, art and archaeology museums that nurtured me as a child and whose collections continue to inspire my life and my art.
