My love for the North American natural landscape and weathered, time-worn structures and artifacts goes back as far as I can recall. As a girl I loved to draw and to photograph old sheds and barns, overgrown wild fields with gnarled old trees, and horses. Having grown up in what felt like concrete-encased neighborhoods, I was always looking for the wild places. Happily I grew up when there were still wild hills and open farmland surrounding the urban valley I lived in. Those loves remain with me and I have always preferred photographing landscapes, wild places, and rural areas.
I got my first camera when I was 12. It was a Kodak Brownie and all you had to do was push the button to take a picture. I only realized recently, so many years later, that one of the most valuable things about starting with a Brownie was that its simplicity of operation allowed all my attention to be on the picture itself - just what showed in the viewfinder - and not on a myriad of technical considerations. So I grew up uninhibited in what I chose to shoot and took a lot of pictures. The Brownie endowed me with a sense of freedom about photography from the beginning. Digital photography has a similar advantage in allowing you to take as many pictures as you wish without the liability of breaking your budget.
I've had many occupations and professions, but those most exciting and fulfilling have been the creative ones. I am delighted to be able to share with you the scenes I love the best through my photography and photographic art.
