-Christine Hauber Photography-

The current that underlies my work is the concept of serenity in a world of chaos. I am attracted to the simplicity of the minimal and I make every effort to be a faithful visual recorder of the world around me. I wish for my images to distill scenes ranging from the ephemeral to the eternal, from the abstruse to the symbolic. As a dedicated artist, I strive constantly to explore and expand my definition of the splendor and mysterious in life and nature. My images have an ethereal and enduring quality.

Process Statement

Traditional Silver Gelatin Photographs
My silver gelatin photographs are captured using infrared black and white film. I use a manual, swing panoramic camera. All of these photographs are fine quality handcrafted made personally by me in my wet darkroom to my exacting standards. Each photograph is individually printed on fiber-based archival paper and toned for permanence to meet archival requirements. None of the traditional photographs have been digitally produced or altered.

Digitally Captured Photographs
A small percentage of my photographs are captured using a digital camera. I tend to use my digital camera in situations where my infrared film does not lend itself…such as with my abstract horses and animals. I photograph the images full frame and do minor color adjustments using photoshop. Each photograph is printed using high quality, archival inks on archival materials which include canvas, watercolor paper and regular photographic paper.

Patinaed Aluminum with Photography
I incorporate my dramatic infrared photographs with aluminum sheets that I have patinaed using a chemical process. It is impossible to make any two pieces exactly the same with the patina. I mount the photograph onto aluminum which then is mounted to the second piece of patinaed aluminum with a 1/2 inch space between. The whole piece is then able to set off the wall by an inch allow for any light source to create a drop shadow on the wall. This give the overall two-dimension piece a three-dimensional feel. Each piece is original and thus no two will ever be alike. Commissions accepted.

Photographic Mixed Media
My newest work combines my infrared photographs, printed on canvas and embellished with acrylic medium, acrylic paint, oil and charcoal. Each piece is original and thus no two will ever be alike. Commissions accepted.
