I was born Richard Thomas 70 years ago in Southern California. Art has always been my passion, especially painting with acrylics, oils or water color. As well as drawing. Studied architectural drafting and design at San Bernardino Valley Junior College between 1968 and 1970. In the Fall of 1970, I chose a different vocation.
By June of 2004, Richard Thomas retired from the retail meat cutting trade. After all my chores were done at home I started another career working in a local camera shop in 2006 to supplement my retirement income, where I was exposed to another art form - painting WITH light. Digital photography makes it incredibly simple to capture the beauty of God's creation.
The digital camera I earned by selling 22 units of Olympus DSLR's in 2008 soon replaced my paintbrushes. A developed eye for composition made an easy transition into photography. Being surrounded by veteran photographers helped inspire my new vocation.
I got 10 years of wonderful service out my E-410. Traveled as far away as Alaska, England and Scotland. Even a week road trip California to Seattle
One thing I learned working in a camera shop is; it doesn't matter what camera you use as long as you take the time to learn how to use it. The more you use your camera, the more familiar you will become with its parameters.
The camera operation manual that comes with the camera will help you understand how it works. Applying what you learn will produce pleasing results. Remember, with digital photography you can practice often!
I left working in retail in 2012. By 2013 I was working from home producing audio books through ACX in my home recording set-up, until my voice went on vacation and has yet to return due to Parkinson's Disease. The majority of my titles are 5 star rating.
Don't drive much these later days. So most of my photography is at home and throughout the neighborhood. If I do travel beyond my neighborhood, my wife drives.
Though handicapped by Parkinson's my eye for composition has not diminished, hands are steady at this point (July 2020 ) thus I will continue to capture the beauty of God's creation with my new Olympus OM-D E-M5 MARK II.
