When I was 15 years old my Grandfather gave me a two-foot tall elaborately framed oil painting I had always admired.   Titled Ships That Pass in the Night, the painting showed two great sailing ships passing each other very closely in the middle of the night in furious seas.   One went away from the viewer while the other under straining canvas roared through crashing green seas right at the viewer.   In the dim yellow oil lights aboard each vessel I saw the shadows of the men aboard.   Were they pirates off on some grand adventure and they had accidentally met this...more
