I LOVE BEAUTIFUL THINGS... AND CREATIVITY OF ANY KIND
I have always so admired creative, imaginative people. But, I have also always been afraid to try to join them. I have never had an art lesson, but have been very fortunate to be on sites where amazing artists share some of the things they've learned and even make suggestions or praises to novices like I was. In 2008, I picked up a pencil, and drew a photo that impressed me. For someone who had no lessons, no experience, it wasn't bad, and I got the rush that comes from creating, from trying! My family and friends encouraged me to keep at it, to try new mediums, and with time and practice, I started to produce pieces that I was proud of... and actually wanted to share. So here I am, letting my 'babies' see the light of day. I hope they give you some pleasure as well. Enjoy.
I think of my pieces as similar to books... they have stories that pull me in and invite me to spend time with them and get the 'rest of the story.' Like a book, I only try pictures that seem like they have a story to tell me, or want to let me have a vacation in places I cannot go these days, or retell me the joys that came to me from places (or events with loved ones) that I want to go deep into for the week or two I spend working on them. So while many of my pictures may only speak to me, that's ok, though I hope some of them might make you smile, or have a story only you can read.
On my projects, I usually use 2-3 reference photos (occasionally 1 if I actually took the photo but usually my compilation of 2-3 photos into one finished project telling the story I want to tell or want to hear and am hoping to create). Most of the reference photos are taken by talented photographers who allow people like me to use to build create the picture in my mind, deeply seeing the beauty of these people and places I wish I could spend time during this time of pandemic isolation going on and on, needing to notice every branch, every wrinkle, every 'flaw' that creates the beauty I see in the place or person or activity, has been a true gift! I highly recommend it! Don't worry! Practice might not make 'perfect', but it certainly will make improvement! And it will reawaken some of the gift of SEEING that we are born with but unintentionally discard as we grow up! Welcome back to the wonder of life! Most of MY favorites, I'm told are illustrations, as in most I see a story. (I've been an avid reader all my life, so it is second nature for me to want to tell a story through my drawings.)
