Jonathan Eden-Drummond is both a photographer and a novelist who was born in New York, raised in Mexico went to university in France and now lives in Belgium with his Argentinean wife.

He grew up in Mexico surrounded by well-known painters, photographers, intellectuals, and authors, including two of Mexico's three most famous woman painters , the great surrealists Leonora Carrington and Remedios Varo Uranga (the other being Frida Kahlo). Remedios Varo in particular exerted a strong and lasting influence on his vision of art. He also briefly met, as a young child, but never forgot, the works by Robert Capa's great teenage love, the Hungarian photographer Kati Horna.

As a young semi-professional photographer in the late 1960s and 70s, he was particularly influenced by Henri Cartier Bresson, Ernst Haas and Marie Cosindas. In 1984 he decided that he was not good enough to be a full-time professional photographer and left the field for the next twenty years. He came back In the middle of the 2000s, however and discovered that his vision of photography had changed. Although their work is quite different, he currently feels closest to Saul Leitner, who he only recently discovered.

The same recurrent themes may be found in all of Jonathan Eden-Drummond's work including, not only his photography, but his two novels, Fardels and Copyright: reality, identity and light.
