Description

One of the prettiest hikes in the Cinque Terre region of Italy is the one from Monterosso to Levanto. It starts with a steep climb out of the town until you reach this fantastic viewpoint at Punta del Mesco. From here you can see all the way down the Cinque Terre coastline. Monterosso itself is divided into and ‘old’ and a ‘new’ town, divided by a single tunnel that caters to pedestrians and the very few cars in the town. If you look carefully, you can see the tunnel at the end of the beach. If you look carefully you can also see the train tracks and train tunnel just above the beach, first brought to Monterosso in 1870! In 1997, the entire Cinque Terre area was designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
