This is a black and white conversion from the original digital image posted on my gallery - here's the back story of how and why the original came to be:
Yesterday I saw this almost bare sycamore tree at the edge of a field of soybeans as I was coming home. I passed it, and my mind tickled me, so I turned around and went back and captured some photos of it. It was a beautiful sunny day, so the sky was basically pale blues with some clouds behind it. I had been trying to figure out an image to do as a watercolor batik involving trees - had been thinking of birches. This tree grabbed me and I thought maybe THIS is my batik tree. But then, my brain started playing with "how will I render it as a batik? I don't think I want it to be against a blue sky."
So I brought the photo up in Photoshop. First I isolated the blue sky and deleted it from around the tree and put it on its own layer. Then I darkened that layer. Then I isolated all the fields and ground to the horizon and darkened and manipulated that area. Finally, I got a blue moon image from Unsplash, posted by Chuttersnap, and positioned it between the tree layer and the sky layer. After sizing and brightening the moon, I was done.
