A sturdy bowl filled with ornamental succulents, nearly all a variety of sedum, captured outdoors against an arid creekbed background. The grouping includes hen-and-chicks and aloe vera.

The bowl of sedum rests on a boulder, and the vertical frame (equivalent of 8x10) is filled with rich color and texture. Succulent arrangements such as this make nice centerpieces for a dining or coffee table indoors, which is where this bowlful may need to reside in the blistering heat of summer.

Vibrant, soothing colors of teal blue, green, gray, and orange, plus a boulder that reminds me of Sedona, Arizona. A conversation piece on a wall of a home or office, serving as a springboard for memories of special trips to the arid American Southwest or botanical hobbies and interests.

In botany, succulent plants, or succulents, are known to have some parts that are more than normally thickened and fleshy, usually to retain water in arid climates or soil conditions. While nearly all cacti are succulents, not all succulents are cactus. These succulents are thriving in a Texas garden, outdoors in springtime. No people and no sky.
