Description
An up close view of the lens and bulb that casts light from the Jupiter Lighthouse on Florida's Southeast Coast. A Fresnel lens, it was made in Paris by Henry-Lepaute and is said to be the oldest existing first order Fresnel lens in the state. Lit by a
1000 watt, 120 volt, GE quartz-iodine bulb socketed in a lamp changer with an
identical spare which rotates into position and turns on whenever the first bulb fails. The light can be seen by ships at sea for 24 miles.
