Description
"Icon" is part of the Los Lonely Girls collection painted by Linda L Martin in 2004. This is a first time release of the original as a reproduction. ~~~ The original was painted on gessoed 300lb watercolor paper in oils. The first phase of the Los Lonely Girls series consisted of Full figured and Larger women from working class and poor families that worked hard to keep their families together and provide them with housing and food. ~~~ Phase one of the series was completed with models who were of Caucasian, Hispanic, native American and oriental family origins. Mid-eastern and African-American women were not included in this phase because of lack of availability of models and funding for the project. There are currently 22 images in the series with several self portraits of the Artist. ~~~
The main body of work was exhibited in 2004 on-line to an invitation only audience of 200 as an essay on real life women in America. The Wordless essay expressed the hopes and dreams of women and their coping in spite of disparaging odds for success and rising from poverty. ~~~ Select images were shown in a one woman retrospective of the artist in 2008 in Stafford County, Va.
