I've been to the Boston, Massachusetts area, but not Jamaica Plain, and one of my hosts sent me a photo that he took in Autumn a few years ago during a walk around the Horn Pond area. I used his photo as a reference to design this piece.

I took great care to capture the fiery autumn color in the more distant trees, the contrast in the near distant trees, as well as the shimmery reflections in the water. The colors are more intense than they show on my phone camera.

I love oil pastels and like to show what can be done with the medium. In my opinion, too many people regard them as on the same par as kids' fingerpaints and use them as such. I want to show that a certain sophistication can be achieved with them.
