Description
Built in 1928, the Private Bank at 120 South LaSalle was originally known as the State Bank of Chicago(SBC) Building. At the time, SBC occupied the entire first floor with its real estate department, while the second and third floors were the main banking space. In 1929, the SBC would merge with Foreman National Bank and vacate most of the building. In 1931 Foreman-State Bank would be acquired by the First National Bank of Chicago, who ultimately built Chase Tower. In 1939, plans were drawn up and put into motion to turn the first floor of the building into a massive arcade with 40 feed wide corridors and making it into one of the more beautiful first floors in Chicago. 120 South LaSalle has gone by many names through the years including Exchange National Bank Building, State Bank of Chicago Building, American National Bank Building, Bank One LaSalle Street Building, and now Private Bank Building.
What caught my eye was the play of light and shadow on the Corinthian columns.
All proceeds will be donated to Chicago's Cornerstone Community Outreach in honor of photographer Richard Cleis, 1965-2021.
