The boarded-up building from anywhere USA stands as a symbol of the past with stories to tell. What clues can we guess just by looking at the façade? Was it a house or a shed? Did people live here all year round and through the cold winters? What did they do for a living and for food and fuel? When was it built? How long ago was it abandoned? I passed by this building at least a dozen times during my trip to Alaska and it never failed to make me wonder.
