I am a self taught artist and have been drawing faces since I was about 13.   I paint primarily jazz and blues musicians ans singers in acrylics, oils, pastels and colored pencil.   I have a hard time explaining why I do what I do, I only know that the human face is most interesting to me when it is most expressive and to me that means musicians.   I use old black and white photos for reference and make up my own colors from there, I don't do portraits per se as I can't guarantee a likeness to a particular performer, in fact after I finish a piece I can rarely tell you who was in the picture I...more
