As if gazing into a carefully constructed piece of Louis Comfort Tiffany stained glass my artwork embodies and evokes a similar aesthetic. This aesthetic is found optically by using rich hues of acrylic colour. My paintings pulse with colour/light and burst forth with radiant energy. The overarching sentiment is the same as Tiffany’s, bold jagged geometrics are shattered and then carefully and artistically reconstructed all the while deeply rooted in jewels of colour and intricacies of design. My artwork has been described by my collectors as innovative out of the mainstream and revolutionary. I typically paint on canvas or birch board panel. I apply layer upon layer of paint over a taped pattern. The magic unfolds with the peeling off process when the true essence of the painting is revealed. Pealing back the tape is also cathartic. My work is groundbreaking as it significantly differs from other traditional tape paintings. I adore nature just as many artists do. However, my true inspiration comes from artists like Paul Cezanne whose geometric interpretation of Mount Sainte Victoire greatly influenced and inspired my own artwork. My interpretation of nature is similar, as Cezanne - ribbons of undulating lines form lakes, mountains, trees, ovals, cubes, triangles, become part of a dream, a representation of a familiar scene - except it is not. As Cezanne states it was his struggle to ‘mold nature into art through geometric form’ that resonates with me. My art has reframed my sadness after losing my daughter to cancer. Honouring the broken parts in my heart has allowed my stylized art form to see beauty in brokenness. Every single painting holds an intrinsic Zen Tangle designed by my late daughter Alexis, by incorporating her designs into every painting she shares in my artistic journey, which is deeply meaningful for me.
