I have gone back to a second art form that I enjoy. Photography is becoming a strong interest again. I am posting a few of those photos @ fineartsamrica.com (search Gary Shindelbower.) When I post a photo of a Clay/Porcelain piece you may purchase a photo of the piece from fineartsamerica.com and contact me for purchase of the piece in the photo. I will continue to create clay/porcelain pieces in my studio. But you can view those I have for sale@ fineartsamerica.com.
Clay is the only thing God gave us that we can make immortal.
Clay is clean, washed, and refined. Then other elements strengthen it, much as our own lives are shaped by events and experiences.
With clay, transformations never happen in an instant.
I work in my home studio and a group studio setting to collaborate with and learn from other enthusiastic potters. Both environments remind me to work with the clay and not on the clay.
I transform the clay, but the clay's responsibility is to accept change. These changes are incremental and not always as expected. Changing the clay takes patience and the ability to recognize the limits of the clay so it can endure firing. I work according to the clay, in its time. All pieces on this site are handmade from a variety of clays and glazes.
'The Lord said to Jeremiah' 'Go down at once to the potter's house. I will speak to you further there.' So I went down to the potter's house and found him working at his wheel. Now and then there would be something wrong with the pot he was molding from the clay with his hands so he would rework the clay into another kind of pot as he saw fit.
Then the Lord said to me. 'I, the Lord, say: 'O nation of Israel, can I not deal with you as this potter deals with the clay? In My hands, you, O nation of Israel, are just like the clay in the potter's hand. (Jeremiah 18: 1-6)
