'Life is a carnival' that is what my friend Jeff has always told me... and I'm starting to believe him!

Having grown up right smack dab in the middle of ole Abraham Lincoln's stomping grounds I have never lacked for ideas or inspiration being. I have always been creative, selling my wares as I go. I have worked with wood and restored antiques which in turn began a love of reclaimed & repurposed items. I am facinated with the story that lies within a piece, unkown at first glance.

One of my favorite stories is in regards to these hearts that I carve out of old weathered wood. They are attractive in appearance but it is the back story that draws you in. I got a pickup truck load of this lumber from my sister when she and her husband were remodeling their house on a farm they had purchased. The wood was used as interior paneling, it was pecky cypress that had clearly been outside exposed to the weather for many years prior. The man that sold the farm had reclaimed the cypress from an elemetary school down the road. It was used as a fence surrounding the ball field, constructed in the 1930's...
I kept that wood in my workshop for several years before I decided what I was going to do with it. That backstory was too important to waste.

I was very fortunate to have been able to call the late George Colin a friend & neighbor for many years. George was an outsider artist that sold fantastic painted wooden creations from his yard, but it was his vividly colored pastels that were his claim to fame. George's use of bold shapes & colors captured my imagination early on and I definitely have implemented that narrative into my work as well.

My journey with 2D wall art began in earnest in 2015. Whimsical is what I most often hear as a description of my work. You can definitely see George's influence in my work, especially the earlier pastel pieces. I work in acrylic on canvas but love when I happen upon a vintage panel that I can paint on. The character marks and overall wear add to the visual journey. Perfectly imperfect I would say!
