Zaanse Schans is a unique village in the Dutch town of Zaandam, near Amsterdam comprised of old, historic, well preserved windmills and distinctive green wooden houses brought here to recreate the look of an 18th/19th-century village. The Zaans Museum is comprised of seven museums of regional costumes, model windmills and interactive exhibits on chocolate making.
The oldest windmill was built in the middle 1500's.
