Title
Woodrow The Pop Art Dog
Artist
Dale Jackson
Medium
Digital Art - Digital Art Photography
Description
Woodrow is a six to eight month old Black Mouth Cur who belonged to a friend of our family. He is actually buckskin colored which is an acceptable breed color. In this photo/digital abstract he has too much white! Only ten percent of the coat can be white; but, in rare occasions solid white and piebald colored ones are born due to recessive genes from earlier generations. So the real Woodrow could be registered by the United Kennel Club but not my “Abstracted Woodrow”! Oh, well!!! Actually Black Mouth Curs are farm and ranch working dogs raised for herding stock but, also capable of hunting big or small game and they make suitable family pets. Both Woodrows are loving, happy, and very playful!
Pop art movements emerged in the mid to late 1950s first in London, England then in the United States. Pop art and music were the outcome of a sense of post war optimism and a consumer boom with an interest in mass-media, mass-production and mass-culture. This movement coincided with a world wide youth culture, personified by the Beatles and Elvis Presley. Pop art was extremely colorful and simplified in a rather cartoonish manner. It began as the mode of expression of a youthful popular culture in England who were in search of change from the crippling conventions of a class ridden establishment.
