Description
"Westward Ho" (1935) was the first film released by Republic Pictures. John Wayne's last Republic Picture was John Ford's 1952 Academy Award winning "The Quiet Man." (His last of four for best director.)
Archie Stout (1886-1973) did the gorgeous second unit cinematography. He is the only cinematographer who ever won an Academy Award for second unit work.
Maureen O'Hara did her own singing in the picture, and is fluent in Gaelic. (John Ford posed as being fluent but was not.)
"Tombstone Slim" (Harold Frances Stofell) was a regular at Tombstone's Helldorado Days. When he died his body was transported, as stipulated in his will, to Tucson's Evergreen cemetery in a horse drawn period hearse.
