Twilight At The Little Shack

Description
This is the second image of three I captured of this little shack in the Lassen County California high desert in the wee hours of a spring morning. Working theories are that the little structure was used either as a shepherd’s shack or a cowboy line shack. Both are solid theories as this area has been used for grazing both sheep and cattle for at least a century and a half.
This particular image was captured just after the beginning of astronomical twilight, the point when the sun is less than 18 degrees below the horizon so it begins to have an effect on the sky. At this point, a high haze was beginning to move in as well. This caused some of the stars to “bloat” or appear larger as their light was diffused through the haze. It also helped reflect some of the very early sunlight as well as the distant light pollution from Reno Nevada in to some interesting colored streaks in the sky.
As usual for my night time imagery, I created this image by “stacking” several frames of the sky to reduce digital “noise” and blending those frames to several more in which I “light painted” the building with a handheld flashlight.

What a gorgeous night sky. The shack provides a perfect centre point without detracting from the view!
