St.John is one of the United States Virgin Islands. The U.S. Virgin Islands are a U.S. territory in the Caribbean Sea. St. John is the smallest of the three main US Virgin Islands and is about four miles east of St. Thomas, the location of the territory's capital, Charlotte Amalie.
Since 1956, about 60 percent of the island is protected as Virgin Islands National Park, administered by the United States National Park Service. The economy is based on tourism.
