Trostle Barn Just Past Sunrise At Gettysburg
Artist
Grace Joy Carpenter

Description
On July 2, 1863, this simple barn became a historically significant landmark. Bigelow's Battery took a stand against the Confederates here, fighting desperately before being forced to retreat. Dead horses covered the farmyard. The brick facade of the barn had a new hole in it, made by a cannonball.
On March 17, 2023, just past sunrise, I visited this historic place for the first time. The sun was climbing in the sky, and was filtered somewhat by the clouds that covered it. The hole from the cannonball was never repaired, and is still visible. The scene was so beautifully peaceful that I could not help but photograph it.
