Description
Every spring, in early May, the forest floor on top of Blue Mountain in Linden, Virginia, is alive with thousands of bright trilliums in bloom. The stand of trilliums that exists on this portion of the Blue Ridge Mountains encompasses an area of approximately two square miles. It is the largest plant community of this kind in Virginia. The blossoms tend to start out white, and as they mature, subtle touches of pink appear. The older blooms, before they finally fade, are often quite striking in rosy, dark pink. This one is the palest of pink, and looks quite lovely against a backdrop of deep green.

A perfect specimen, beautifully photographed. Trilliums are the provincial flower of Ontario...I'll bet you didn't know that!
David Beard replied:
I did not know that! They are beautiful flowers... just love them. Thanks, Peggy.

Isn't "Trillium 9" the title of a science fiction TV series from the 1980's? Very nice capture. :-)
