Tina Turner - Anna Mae Bullock - November 26, 1939 - May 24, 2023 - American soul and rock singer, songwriter, choreographer, dancer, musician, actress, producer and writer. She also had Swiss citizenship.
She was part of a group of artists who defined mainstream rock in the 1980s. She was one of the highest-grossing artists in terms of the number of albums sold and concert profits in the world, and one of the most popular artists in history. It is estimated that the number of her records sold worldwide is over 180 million copies, which makes her the rock artist with the most sold records. Some sources say, however, that the number of records sold by her may be even 200 million units. Due to her professional achievements, she is called the "Queen of Rock and Roll".
The beginnings of Turner's activity in the music industry date back to 1959[2]–1960. In the early years of her career, she performed with Ik Turner in the rock and roll band Ike & Tina Turner as a vocalist. He was the support for The Rolling Stones tour in 1969. Together with Ik they were honored with a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. A breakthrough in her solo career was the release of her fifth solo album Fri. Private Dancer (1983), which was a worldwide success, exceeding 20 million copies sold. According to the Guinness Book of Records, the profit from the sale of tickets for her concerts reached the highest value recorded so far in history. Her fortune is valued at $200 million.
Winner of 70 music awards out of 100 nominations, including as many as eight Grammy Awards, making her the most awarded rock and roll artist in the history of the phonographic industry. In addition, she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 1986, she unveiled her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She also earned a star at St. Louis Walk of Fame. She was awarded the Order of Arts and Letters of France. In 2010, she was ranked 63rd in the Rolling Stone magazine's ranking of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. In 2021, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist.
