Description
I was recently introduced to "The story of the dragonfly " at a funeral and thought it was a beautiful way to express life, death and the after life in heaven.
I found it comforting , and wanted to portray it in art.
The Story Of The Dragonfly
Once, in a little pond, in the muddy water under the cattails,
there lived a little water bug in a community of water bugs.
They lived a simple and comfortable life in the pond
with few disturbances and interruptions.
Once in a while sadness would come to the community when one of
their fellow bugs would climb the stem of a cattail and never be herd from again.
They knew when this happened; they would never see their friend again,
because none had ever returned, they feared their friend was dead, gone forever.
So the bugs came up with a plan,
The next one to climb the cattail would find a way to return to the bottom of the pond,
Find the other bugs and tell what happened to them.
Then, one day, one water bug felt an irresistible urge to climb up that stem.
However, he was determined that he would
not leave forever. He would come back and tell his friends what
he had found at the top.
When he reached the top and climbed out of the water up
the stem of the cattail, he was so tired and the sun felt so
warm, that he decided he must take a nap. As he slept, his body
changed and when he woke up, he had turned into a beautiful
dragonfly with broad wings and a slender body
designed for flying.
So, fly he did! As he soared he saw the beauty of a whole
new world and a far superior way of life to what he had never
known existed.
And their to great him were his old friends in new bodies who had climed the stem before him and not been seen since.
Then he remembered his bug friends, and how they were thinking
by now he was dead. He wanted to go back to tell them, and
explain to them that he was now more alive than he had ever been
before. His life had been fulfilled rather than ended.
So he flew as fast as he could at the surface of the water,
But his new body would not go down into the water. He could
not get back to tell his friends the good news. Then he
understood that their time would come, when they too would
know what he now knew. So, he raised his wings and flew off
into his joyous new life!

P.S. FYI the print size 9.75 x 20 of this art work fits in a standerd 10 x 20 frame size that is commonly found in stores like Joann Fabrics as frames for the matted tripple 5 x 7 photo frame. Joanns in michigan has a green frame that I use for this image that looks great. Just info for a cheaper way to have a copy
