Description
This is one of the columns that once stood at Beit She'An in Israel. The craftsmanship of this city was amazing to witness. The city itself, was first settled in about the fourth or fifth century B.C. and was occupied by the Egyptians, the Romans and many others throughout the ages. The city of Beit She'An was strategically located between the Jazreel Valley and Jordan River Valley. This was a thriving city along the old trade routes of the day. This column was erected during the Roman era of Beit She'An. If you notice, the marble that was used to build the city was not from a quarry nearby, it was brought to Beit She'An by the Romans. To think of moving all of this marble through the port at Ceasarea and then carried inland through the Jazreel valley is just amazing in and of itself.
