Description
This is a newly blooming Texas Thistle wild flower. They are starting to form and bloom in the field meadow that I hike through in Spring and Summer. I got my macro lens out to take some close ups of these flowers. They are amazing how they grow and this one looks like an explosion of petals from the bud.
Texas Thistle (C. texanum) is one of at least ten types of thistle found in Texas. It is drought tolerant and grows in early summer. It is a good source of nectar for pollinator insects.
