Original from a photo of Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Tawakkol Karman as viewed from the artist’s interpretation and taken into pastels.
I took a photo of that piece and loaded it into Photoshop where layers and digital rendering turned it into contemporary mixed media art.
This image is one of the HER PRESENCE series. It continues to weave a thread of interest that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way. Here is a tribute to a an awakening awareness of the vital connection we share with the other.

The visual story emphasizes the fraught process of selection we each face every day and pays special tribute to the courage of Tawakkol Karman, the Nobel Prize winning journalist who braved the most challenging situations to create avenues for communication for change with compassion.
Her work for “making the world a better place” is the impetus for creating this visual statement, as a bold and colorful paintography piece.
Any number of viewers tell me it reaches out with a narrative of feminine empowerment. Through digital manipulation the image seems to deepen the story of her presence as texture, patterns, repetition, and a "post-painterly-abstraction –modern-impressionist wave" becomes a contemporary collage.
As women's empowerment blooms, I felt attracted to utilizing bold colors to represent the emergence of strong feminine voices speaking truth to power.
This image is also part of a series of female Nobel Prize Winners portrayed with color, metaphor, whimsy and/or humor. There’s an old Tao saying: “ The journey is the reward.” That is what I am wishing for viewers who come upon my work. Zsanan Studio Notes
