There is a huge old oak tree growing on the side of one of the country roads we live by and the other day I saw these wild sunflowers growing in front of the tree which just towers over the flowers. I love that this tree has spread out its limbs as if protecting the flowers. I also thought the spots of clouds in the blue sky brought interest as well.
The common sunflower (Helianthus annuus) can grow up to ten feet tall. Inside the flower is actually hundreds of tiny flowers called disk flowers which turn into edible seeds.
