Description

I like the wild sunflowers in the midst of the managed sunflower field, sticking their heads up wild and free! I also was happy that these sunflowers were facing us with the sunset in the background, as they could have been facing the other way. This image was taken in a huge sunflower field near Denver in Colorado.

From Wikipedia: "Helianthus annuus, the common sunflower, is a large annual forb of the genus Helianthus grown as a crop for its edible oil and edible fruits. This sunflower species is also used as wild bird food, as livestock forage, in some industrial applications, and as an ornamental in domestic gardens."

Gorgeous capture Judi! CONGRATULATIONS on your win in the Sunflower contest! Beauty of a shot. The mature Sunflower always faces east once it's out of the baby phase, so only those younger ones follow the sun (hence their name) and you can always tell the direction in a photo because of this... a bit of Flower trivia! Judi to be fair to all... this needs to be cropped wider to feature in Art 4 Billboard contests/galleries!!! I think this capture is truly lovely. To feature in the WIDE SUNFLOWER this image needs to be creatively transformed into a new digital work, cropped wide... we accept horizontal or verticals!
