Description
A hot summers day amongst the chestnut trees in Ashridge woods, Berkhamstead, England. This is an impressionist watercolour painting that I did of one of my favourite spots in Ashridge woods, where there is a area of mainly Chestnut trees. This was a hot summer's day and I can almost feel the heat in this painting. I've visited this place so many times, that I know the area like the back of my hand, although it has been many years since I was there last. Ashridge woods is part of the Ashridge Estate, Berkhamsted, England, owned and maintained by The National Trust. The entire estate covers an area of 2000 hectares or 5000 acres. A large part of the estate is covered by beautiful woodland and comprises a network of footpaths. Some of these (nature trails) are marked by numbered posts, which are great fun for children to find and follow. This scene was taken from one of these nature trails. On such days, these woods draw hundreds of visitors. Even with the high numbers of visitors, Ashridge woods offer a peaceful and beautiful area where one can come to enjoy nature and observe a host of wildlife.
