Description
A Red-tailed Hawk that periodically sits in the trees next to the stream by house looking for Morning Doves. Most of the time the hawk flies away empty handed.
The feathers and other parts of the red-tailed hawk are considered sacred to many Native Americans. The eagle feather law regulates the use of the feathers and parts of the red-tailed hawk.
The red-tailed hawk is highly tameable and trainable making the hawk a popular bird for falconry. They are long lived, highly disease resistant and have a sociable disposition , A falconer can have a red-tailed hawk as a hunting companion for up to two decades. A well-trained red-tailed hawk will follow the falconer, catch any flushed game and wait while the falconer locates the hawk and "make in" (carefully approach) and give the hawk a piece of meat for its kill.
