Description

Ragusa Ibla is the old town of Ragusa, home to much Baroque architecture including the cathedral of San Giorgio whose dome is seen in the background. It was built between 1739–1775 to replace a temple destroyed in a 1693 earthquake. It is surrounded by a warren of narrow lanes built on a medieval plan, one of which (Via Capitano Bocchieri) was our favorite for nighttime views of the cathedral’s dome. Ragusa is part of the Val di Noto UNESCO World Heritage site and 18 of its building are protected by UNESCO patronage.
