Description
this image was taken at Point Abino Lighthouse located in Fort Erie Canada. It was decommissioned in 1989. It is now under the care of the town and is being restored. lake Erie water level has dropped so much these reflecting pools have formed so you can get these great reflections of this stately lighthouse.
Here's some more information on this specific lighthouse:
The Point Abino Lighthouse is located on the rocky north shore of Lake Erie, in Fort Erie. It was constructed in 1918 by the Department of Marine and Fisheries, in response to increased traffic at the east end of Lake Erie. It is located between the high and low water marks on the rocky shoreline of Point Abino.
Since being decommissioned in 1995, the Point Abino Lighthouse has been designated as a 'Classified' Heritage Building by the Federal Heritage Buildings Review Office, as a National Historic Site, and as a Classified Federal Building. The concrete Lighthouse is recognized for its unusual shape, classical detailing, and efficiency of structural design. The Lighthouse consists of three structures: the deck, tower and fog alarm building.
The Town of Fort Erie acquired the Point Abino Lighthouse from Public Works Canada on April 30, 2003, for the purpose of sharing this Canadian treasure with the world. Preservation efforts will be ongoing over the next several years, to repair both architectural and historical elements of this structure.
This lighthouse was built to replace the old Buffalo lightship which was lost at sea in 1913. You can tell by the way this lighthouse was built, very stout, that the lake can get quite nasty. The lighthouse is of a very unique architecture and is like no other lighthouse on the Great Lakes. The lighthouse itself is made out of sculptured concrete and has some amazing details.
This lighthouse is located at the end Point Abino Road which sits in a private community of mostly wealthy US citizens

My Grandfather was the lighthouse keeper there in the early 60's and he and my Grandmother lived in the lighthouse keepers residence. This print is on my Christmas list and I better see it under the tree!
