Description
A snowy egret (Egretta thula) flies over the calm waters of Richardson Bay north of San Francisco in search of a feeding area in the preserve.
The snowy egret is among the most majestic of the herons, with stark white plumage offset by black legs and beak and brilliant yellow feet.
Like its larger cousin, the great egret, this stately bird was hunted almost to extinction for its showy plumage in the 19th century. Thanks to conservation efforts beginning in the 20th century, it is once again a common beautiful sight among coastal wetlands in the United States and central America and South America.
This photo of the snowy egret's glowing plumage reminds me of how God protects us, covering us with His holy wings as we place our trust in Him for guidance and protection:: "He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge." (Psalm 91:4a, Tree of Life Bible)
A comforting truth, indeed.
