Title
New Dungeness Lighthouse At Sequim Washington
Artist
Anne Norskog
Medium
Painting - Hand Drawn Digital Lighthouse And Seascape
Description
John Wayne, the actor, sailed into Sequim often on his boat, The Wild Goose. The Duke loved the area. New Dungeness Light Station is on a spit of land reaching into the Strait of Juan de Fuca near Sequim. It has been providing a guiding light for more than 150 years.
Originally, the tower was taller but was shorted to 63 feet. The Fresnel lens was changed to a 6-prism modern optic. The last keeper was retired in 1976 but the U.S. Coast Guard maintained the site.
In 1994, the U.S. Coast Guard was going to close the station permanently. This is when a group of hard working, very dedicated people took over. Working on 5 year renewable leases from the Coast Guard, these folks have taken New Dungeness under their wings and made the lamp shine in glory. Repairs were first on the agenda. The lighthouse is on the National Register of Historic Lighthouses and all repairs had to be historically correct.
A guest keeper program has made New Dungeness one of the most sought after vacation spots in the Pacific Northwest. The New Dungeness Lighthouse Society uses this money for the never ending needs of this beautiful place.
The keepers house is now a 4-bedroom, 2-bath guest house complete with kitchen, dining room, parlor and porches. Rigorous screening is employed before someone can become a guest keeper. They are expected to keep up the grounds, conduct tours, take care of the brass, haul the trash, provide their own food, raise and lower Old Glory and absolutely fall in love with the place. Not a hard chore since the spit is also a wildlife refuge and the shore birds, eagles, and whales all play up and down the Strait.
Every piece of art in my gallery is original; not scanned; not a photograph. Using only the computer mouse, I draw every line, add every bit of shading, highlights, blending, and refining to finish a piece. All of the art is started in Microsoft Paintbrush. The finishing process is done using Photoshop Elements.
Every piece is printed using only the finest of professional materials available, by a professional printing house. Rigorous quality control is employed to guarantee a satisfactory work of fine art.
Fine canvas and museum-quality signed, numbered and authenticated paper prints are available from the gallery.

Good morning, Lina. Thank you for the nice review. This was John Wayne's favorite lighthouse, in the day. The wildlife sanctuary, whales and scenery are fabulous at New Dungeness.
