I am working on this series of drawings that draw their inspiration from women and other works painted by the masters of the 20th century. This drawing here is based on three paintings by Picasso, not copied but interpreted in a different light and brought together to create another kind of work but with respect to the original art. I feel like I met the young woman in this painting while I was drawing her.Since I started with a work in color, I had to reinterpret her as well as the cup and the spoon and the live and dead trees. Approaching Picasso's work in this fashion makes me look at his work differently than before. I have intentionally made changes since it never was my intention to copy any of these works, but to give my own take on them. I will continue works in this vein in the Art On A Card series of works, which aims at making unique handmade cards with drawings on them. These will make wonderful gifts of original art and since they are in card format, you can enclose your very special message and photos or other memorabilia in the card that can be matted and framed or left in an envelope for very private viewing. Printed cards and other reproduced items with this image will be offered, but there is only one original and I am making it very affordable for that special person. No watermarks will show on any actual items. The original card is signed and has a statement of originality on its back. All materials used are acid free. All copyrights belong to Helena Tiainen.
